Artists’ Statement

Francesca Moore is a documentary photographer whose personal work stems from interests in people and the environment. With an MSc in Biological Photography and Imaging, Francesca draws on her scientific background to portray humanitarian, social and environmental issues. Past projects include a documentary project on the effect of EU legislation on traditional Romanian subsistence farmers at the point of Romania joining the EU, and a meditative exploration of the Camino, a pilgrimage walk to the town of Santiago, in the Northwest of Spain.

This Arts Council England funded project, Bhopal: Facing 30, portrays the site of the 1984 Bhopal gas disaster today, and the people who continue to be affected thirty years on. A book, Bhopal: Facing 30, was produced to commemorate the thirtieth Anniversary of the disaster, and portraits were exhibited nationally and internationally and were shortlisted and exhibited for Environmental Photographer of the Year 2014. The project received Special Commendation for the Nick Reeves Award for Arts and the Environment in recognition of an outstanding contribution in the field of environmental arts.

All project updates will be posted here, on the Bhopal: Facing 30 dedicated blog pages. You can follow for news and updates or see the twitter feeds @bhopalfacing30 or @moorefran. To view Francesca’s other work, see www.francescamoore.co.uk
